What happens during your electrical check

Our electrician will:

  • check your fuse board
  • inspect sockets, switches and lighting
  • test circuits to make sure they are safe
  • check your smoke detectors are present and working

We carry out visual inspections and testing to identify any damage or wear. We may unscrew some switches to check the wiring, but this shouldn’t cause any damage.

If we find anything that puts you in immediate danger, we’ll repair it to make your home safe.

How long it takes

The check usually takes three to four hours.

An adult must be present at the start of the appointment, but you can go about your normal routine while we work. We’ll do our best to stay out of your way.

If we are given easy access, we will:

Will it be messy or disruptive?

No. We won’t be drilling into walls or doing anything that affects your décor. The check involves testing and inspection rather than major works.

How to prepare

Before your appointment, please:

  • move furniture away from sockets and switches
  • make sure you have enough credit on your prepayment meter, if you have one

This helps us complete the check quickly and safely.
