These checks are compulsory and we’ll write to you ahead of time to let you know when your appointments is. We do our best to work around your schedule, so please contact us straight away if an appointment isn’t convenient.
If your smoke alarm or carbon monoxide detector isn’t working properly, tell us: call 0300 555 666 or report it online.

About your gas check
We check and service your whg-installed gas appliances every year to ensure they are safe. We’ll also test your CO detector. Please make sure you have enough credit on your gas and electric prepayment meters, if you have them. You’ll also need to make space around the boiler and move any belongings or furniture that may be in the way.
We’ll let you know when your check is due. It usually takes around 45 to 90 minutes to complete the check and you’ll receive your gas safety certificate a few weeks later.
Remember, you’re still responsible for the condition and safety of any of your own appliances.
What to do if you smell gas
Get out of your home, calmly warn your neighbours. Call the free 24-hour national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999. Don’t smoke, don’t turn any light switches on or off and don’t use any naked flames.

About your electrical check
Around every five years we check all sockets, circuits and lighting are in working order and safe for you and your family. We’ll also check to make sure your smoke detectors are present and working correctly. We will let you know in advance when your check is due.
We don’t need to do any drilling and it usually only takes around three to four hours to complete the check. If we have easy access, we’ll fit a socket with a USB port and give you an energy saving lightbulb.
We’ll do visual checks of your fuse board and all accessories, like sockets and switches, to identify any visible signs of defects, damage, or deterioration. We will also test each light switch and socket. We might unscrew a few switches to check the wiring, but this shouldn’t cause any damage.
Please move any furniture away from electrical sockets to provide easy access and make sure you have enough credit on your prepayment meter, if you have one.
