Water safety

Water safety is another important part of keeping your home safe. Stagnant water can allow bacteria such as legionella to grow. Breathing in legionella bacteria can cause a serious type of pneumonia.

We carry out regular inspections and water safety testing of shared systems in blocks of flats. In individual homes, the risk is low, but there are simple precautions you can take.

If you have been away on holiday or a room has not been used for a while, run your taps and showers for 10 minutes to flush the system through. Keep shower heads and taps clean and free from limescale, mould or algae. Make sure your hot water is set to at least 50°C. If you are unsure how to check this, contact us and we will guide you.

Asbestos safety

Many homes built before 2000 may contain asbestos materials. If asbestos is in good condition and is not disturbed, it does not usually pose a risk to health.

As your landlord, we are responsible for managing asbestos safely. We have a specialist licensed team who carry out inspections, provide advice and arrange safe removal where needed.

You should never try to remove or disturb anything you think may contain asbestos. If you are concerned about something in your home, contact us and we will arrange to check it for you.
