A fresh start with shared ownership

One of our new shared ownership customers shares her story

whg’s shared ownership programme is continuing to change lives across the region, offering an accessible and affordable path into home ownership for people from all walks of life. For Alison, 55, moving into her new shared ownership home at Monkswood has provided stability, comfort and a new beginning after a difficult period in her life.

After going through a divorce, Alison found herself unable to secure a rental property due to complications with financial checks. “Even just trying to rent somewhere before we were officially divorced, I couldn’t get anywhere to live,” she explained. “The applications just wouldn’t go through.”

Shared ownership with whg offered Alison a solution at the moment she needed it most. By purchasing a share of her new home, she was able to step back onto the property ladder in a way that was financially manageable and tailored to her circumstances.

Now settled into her new home, Alison says the difference is life-changing.

“I love that the house is clean, comfortable and well-appointed,” she said. “If I hadn’t got this home through shared ownership, I would have been in a much worse position, probably in a one-bedroom flat, which wouldn’t have worked with my health conditions. At least here my two boys can come and stay with me. My life would have been completely different.”

Alison believes shared ownership is the ideal solution for people in similar situations, describing it as “exactly the right scheme for someone in my position.”

Her experience with whg exceeded expectations from start to finish.

“whg was very good, on the ball, and emailed you straight back,” Alison said.“I had a very good experience, a very painless transition for me. They were the best and have been great, and I can’t praise them enough, to be honest.”
